RATIONALE
What have been the socio-economic changes of BACKWARDs in the rural-urban-metro areas over the past sixty years or so? Quite diverse at the time of Independence, the picture remains heterogeneous with positive changes and also serious shadows. More than 80 per cent slum dwellers belong to BACKWARD community.
The caste system as a social organization of the Hindu society is based on certain economic and social relations, which are unequal. This inequality involves historic exclusion and discrimination of certain groups or castes, particularly the SCs in multiple societal relations – economic, social, political or cultural. Further, from such a gargantuan nature of discrimination and exclusion emanates intense deprivation and poverty for the untouchables who are traditionally placed at abyss of the caste system. Caste system is one of the root causes of backwardness of backward community. Caste is notion of mind and it is deeply rooted in mind. The caste system is oppressive in nature and it is not allowing to specific group of people to have access to basic fundamental human rights
